Next Version of Go4Go

A new version of Go4Go.net has been under development for quite a few months. The transition of the system is going to be time-consuming. But because many major functions are ready to use, I decide to open it to the general public so that feedbacks can be collected. The old site and the new site will co-exist for quite a while.

What's new?

In contrast to the current Go4Go.net, which is a close system maintained and developed by myself, the new site has an open environment, strongly encouraging community discussions. In addition to forums where ordinary community discussions occur, users can also share their opinions at many other places in the new web site. For example user can post comments immediately below a news article or a game record. As an example, please visit this page and see how user comments can be added just below the go board, making it possible to discuss technical problems in that game at the most convenient place. I hope this type of open environment will be attractive and useful for many go fans.

As you can see, user commentaries are not limited to plain text. Go diagrams are possible too. You can embed Go diagram in your text by using some special text formats.

  • You can post a full-board position by using SGF in your text. Further instruction is here.
  • You can use the text format defined by Sensei's Library to post board positions with markup information for convenient discussions. Further instruction is here.
  • Some board markup symbols are defined as 'smiley' so that you can use them easily in your text just as you can display a happy face by :-).

To start

If you are ready to start, please visit http://www.go4go.net/v2. A user account is not mandatory, but registration will give you extra privileges. Registration form only takes one minute to complete and your account is almost instantly activated.

  • If you are a subscriber of Mr. Alexandre Dinerchtein's game commentary service, your user information has already been moved to the new system. So simply login. After you first login, I recommend you to at least update your time zone information in your user profile so that the forum displays your local time. We are developing the new Game Commentary section so please use the old site to access the commented games.

Suggestions and comments

Suggestions and comments can be left using the 'Contact Us' form within the new site. Or you can simply send an email to 'support@go4go.net'. I welcome your feedback and I hope to serve the community better.
