Chinese Rank Promotion tournament

We see quite a lot of games of this tournement, with players I at least am not familiar with. As I cannot replay all the games I wonder whether there are new talents on the rise: as Ke Jie was promoted to 9p after winning an international tournament he doesn't participate here anymore. Does anybody know about some good new players? Thank you in advance!

Kind regards,
Paul

Re: Chinese Rank Promotion tournament

The Rank Promotion tournament is not always well covered by Chinese media. This year, fortunately, the tournament was help in Tongli, a small town that regularly hosts major Go events. So there were plenty of media coverage and game records available.

As you have guessed, there are quite some talents among this group of players (all below 5-dan). Doing extremely well this year were Yi Lingtao, winning 11 of his 12 games, and Wang Zejin, winning 10.

Understandably, established players often get more media coverage. Talented young players only get noticed when they manage to do something really special. Wang Zejin, who I mentioned in the previous post, managed to enter the 3rd round of Mlily Cup, beating the Korean No. 2 Kim Jiseok on the way. So it should not be a big surprise that he did similarly well in the rank promotion tournament.
